What services do you provide?

Center for African Services New York, Inc. provides a one-stop-shop to all immigrants regardless of your place of origin. However, we serve more as a comprehensive source to meet the cultural demands of African immigrants that are lacking in most service delivery systems.

 

I am a new immigrant, what help can you give me?

We provide counseling, case management (including immigration related and social service entitlement cases), skills training, job placement, and follow-along services to help new immigrants successfully integrate into their communities and become more financially and vocationally independent.

 

I am in immigration court, what help can you provide me?

Center for African Services can provide legal representation to persons in immigration court proceedings—including such who can not immediately afford to pay for legal representation cost. We offer free services and we are accredited by Board of Immigration Appeals represent clients before USCIS adjustment interviews and immigration courts.

 

I want change/adjust my status what do I need to do?

What you need to do will depend on the unique nature of your status. We advice you to contact our Procedural Consultation & Legal Immigrant Services team to guide through this transition process.

 

How much do your services cost?

Our services are free, except where applicable, some USCIS process requires fees for filing some forms while some do not.

 

Where does C.A.S. get funding from?

Center for African Services is funded by an array of individual, corporate, state and federal institutions.

 

How can I contribute as an intern or volunteer at CAS?

You can contribute to the work of CAS by sending a written intent of action (IOA) at applications@centerforafricanservices.org or filling our volunteer application form and stating clearly what your experiences are and the area(s) of interest that you would want to take part in.

 

I am not an African; I can receive services from CAS?

Yes, our services are open to all individuals regardless of creed, ethnicity, national origin, immigration status, race, religion, gender, age, or sexual orientation.

 

Do you have services for children and youths as well as the entire family?

Our services are a one-stop-shop—we have youth development program open to children and youth from ages 6 to 24. We also provide other family centered services ranging from independent living skill training, job training and placement to new neighbor matching initiatives.

 

What are your hours of operation?

Our hours of operation run from 10am to 4pm currently and a number of changes is due to take place by the end of 2010.

 

How can I donate to CAS?

Currently, individual contributions are not accepted.

 

Do you provide interpretation/translation services?

Our Language Bank provides medical, legal, and other professional translation and interpretation services throughout New York with high quality language interpretation options. Our Language Bank offers the following services in more than 50 African languages and dialects.

 

 Are your trainings recognized by the State of New York?

Yes, C.A.S has in place New York Department of Education Licensed Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision (BPSS) School system and offers a full range of job training and placement services.

 

Can you provide job placement assistance after training at CAS?

We provide job placement assistance with the help of our networked chain of employers both in our training provision specialty as well as for those who come to CAS already with training from elsewhere.
